Description | Creswell School District is seeking highly skilled candidates for a Specialized Educational Assistant: Health Assistant position (6 hours per day) to join the outstanding staff at Creslane Elementary.

Position Summary
Provides a variety of services to support student health monitoring and health care; involves application of established policies, procedures and instructions in relation to health care and health services information compilation, storage and retrieval; compiles and maintains student health care records; assists nurses, licensed practical nurses and other health care providers.
Positions may be assigned to provide health services to support a variety of schools or provide support in a school health room setting.
Supervisory Relationships
Works under direct supervision of an assigned administrator, or his/her designee.
Essential Functions
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
- Establishes and updates manual and computerized files and records of student health information, including data such as health cards, illness, allergy, and immunization history, including the use of available medical record systems; reviews health information provided by parents/guardians and enters data into systems; responsible for the accuracy of student health information records and providing accurate student health information to nurses, creates student health charts, verifies that all students meet State standards by appointed deadline; maintains school clinic health records.
- Assists in health screening programs such as: audiometric, dental, vision, blood pressure, blood sugar levels, fluoride rinse, height, weight, scoliosis, head lice, scabies, impetigo, speech and language testing; records results of health screenings; assists nurse with administering treatment and periodic re-testing.
- Provides basic emergency medical and first aid care when necessary. This may include administering medication including insulin and/or assist students with functions of personal hygiene related to teeth, hair, hand washing and bathroom protocols.
- Assists nurse with further care as needed; contacts parents of injured children; administers Epinephrine per protocol if trained; may administer medicine per protocol, if trained, at the school sites with written parent/guardian permission.
- Maintains inventory of materials for the health rooms, works with administration to ensure supplies are ordered, and prepares and organizes medical equipment such as bandages, thermometers and ice packs; monitors and maintains appropriate storage temperatures.
- Type letters, memos, informational bulletins and other documents; posts notices and posters on health office bulletin boards. Provides health information as required, within HIPAA regulations, FERPA guidelines, and assists with student incident reports.
- Uses current office technology and equipment to produce documents; creates and maintains forms and resources; develops and maintains spreadsheets and reports.
- Maintains regular and prompt attendance.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- Associates degree or higher (attach diploma); OR
- Completion of two years post-secondary study consisting of 72 credit hours, 48 semester units (attach transcripts);
- Meet a rigorous standard of quality, and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment or para-professional certificate program, knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, as appropriate, reading/language arts, writing and mathematics or reading readiness, writing readiness and mathematics readiness.
Experience:
- Demonstrated ability to operate a variety of office equipment; ability to operate applicable computer systems or learn within a reasonable amount of time.
- Knowledge of medical terminology/symbols and first aid procedures or ability to acquire within a reasonable amount of time; ability to keep current on health issues as they relate to schools.
- Ability to identify and extract appropriate data, post data rapidly and accurately, and to perform mathematical calculations.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; ability to work harmoniously with a variety of staff, supervisors, students, and public.
- Ability to maintain confidential records and apply legal guidelines as required; maintains confidentiality of medical information.
- Ability to work calmly in stressful situations.
- Ability to work independently and effectively prioritize a variety of tasks.
- Previous training in a health-related field or working with medical records preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration & Other Requirements:
- Ability to obtain and hold a valid First Aid/CPR card and pass SafeSchools training modules as assigned.
- Current Epinephrine administration authorization card.
- Valid driver's license or ability to work at multiple sites within normal commute time.
Desired Qualifications
- Related experience in an educational setting with medically fragile students.
- Related experience in an educational setting with students who exhibit dysregulated behaviors.
- One year experience in clerical or secretarial activities including manual and computerized record-keeping, typing, and working with the public.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (May be acquired through education, training, and/or experience.)
Knowledge of: District policies and procedures; modern office practices and procedures; letter writing, correct language usage; receptionist, telephone and record keeping/filing systems; computer hardware and software programs and their usage; modern office equipment; safety and first aid practices and procedures; multimodal and augmentative communication systems and devices as well as assistive technology and adaptive/mobility equipment.
Skills to: apply student de-escalation strategies in a variety of unique situations and environments; transition smoothly from one task to another, through multiple environments within a school day.
Ability to: understand and apply District and school policies and procedures; maintain appropriate office appearance and attire; maintain regular and acceptable attendance and punctuality, as set forth in Board policy; greet stakeholders; maintain appropriate office appearance and attire; provide information pertaining to area and/or District/School policies, procedures and other pertinent information; operate maintain and arrange for repair various office/school equipment; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work and from diverse backgrounds; interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, and community members and resolves conflict in a professional manner; maintain records; utilize keyboarding skills commensurate with the required functions for this position; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; utilize appropriate grammar and spelling when corresponding, make mathematical calculations accurately; follow oral and written instructions; accurately research various information and prepare related reports; to provide toileting, dressing, laundry support.
Work Direction, Lead & Supervisory Responsibilities:
No assigned permanent staff to supervise. May train and provide work directions, as directed by supervisor, to appropriate staff and volunteers.
Physical Effort:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 25 pounds and occasionally maneuver up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision.
Working Conditions:
Normal school environment. The employee may be exposed to bodily fluids, bloodborne pathogens, sick and/or contagious students. The employee may be exposed to toxic chemicals (for disinfecting) and outdoor weather conditions and environments.
